Scott Minto admits it “wouldn’t bother” him if Hakim Ziyech never played for Chelsea again after Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat by Southampton.
Raheem Sterling gave Thomas Tuchel’s side the lead at St Mary’s but goals from Romeo Lavia and Adam Armstrong gave Southampton victory.
Ziyech, meanwhile, struggled to make an impact in Chelsea’s three-man attack alongside Sterling and Kai Havertz.
And Minto has hinted that Chelsea wouldn’t lose if they ditch the Moroccan midfielder before the transfer deadline.
‘The goal to make it 2-1 gave Southampton a big cheer and a big slap on the back. At half-time everyone in the stadium was ready for that,” Minto told talkSPORT.
“Okay, it’s halftime. How will Chelsea react? In the second half they didn’t react at all.
“I think Thomas Tuchel did everything he could with what he had on the bench. He went from a three to a four and back to a three and brought out all of his attacking players that he thought he could match in terms of senior professionals, but they just weren’t good enough.
“For me, Hakim Ziyech, it wouldn’t bother me if he didn’t play for Chelsea again. It was difficult for Christian Pulisic to come on but he’s another player who has flattered himself into deceiving in the last 18 months.
“Chelsea need another centre-back and they need an absolute striker and if you hear you talk about Anthony Gordon they might need him too, to play with passion and skill and technique.
“They have a lot of ‘flair players’ at the moment but they don’t get the ball and in the second half it was Southampton who stepped up and in the end they totally deserved the three points.
“It’s been disappointing for Chelsea and it’s going to be an interesting final few days before the transfer window closes.”
