Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has broken his silence after he was attacked and left with a broken jaw during a violent robbery at his home in Barcelona.
The Spanish newspaper El Pais reported that at least four men climbed into his garden and threatened him with guns and iron bars.
Aubameyang was attacked and intimidated by the men in front of his wife, Alysha Behague, with the criminals managing to open a safe in the house and steal several jewels.
Several witnesses claim the thieves fled in a white Audi A3.
“Hey guys thanks for all the messages,” former Arsenal captain Aubameyang posted on Instagram.
“Sunday night, some violent cowards broke into our home and threatened my family and children just to steal some things.
“They injured my jaw but I will recover in no time and thank goodness no one else was physically hurt.
“The feeling of not being safe in our own homes is difficult to understand and describe, but as a family we will overcome this and be stronger than ever.
“Thank you for all the support, it really means a lot to us. Auba.’
Aubameyang has lived at Barcelona since February after joining the Spanish club from the Gunners on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old has been in talks of a return to London this summer, with Chelsea keen on signing the Barcelona striker.
Earlier this month, Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski had his £59,000 watch stolen outside the club’s training ground while he was signing autographs for fans.
Last year, Barcelona’s 19-year-old winger Ansu Fati had his house broken into while watching the team play at the Camp Nou.
Part of the player’s family was still in the house when the thieves broke in and stole money, jewelry and watches.
In 2018, Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba’s home was also attacked by thieves who entered the property while his family was inside.
