According to reports from Spain, Chelsea have tried to sign Memphis Depay from FC Barcelona.
Chelsea are already closer to signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after he agreed a deal with Barcelona on Thursday.
The deal sees Chelsea pay €7.5m (£6.5m) for Aubameyang, while Marcos Alonso joins Barcelona as part of the deal.
AS and Gerald Romero report that Chelsea are also in talks with Barca about a potential deal for Depay ahead of Thursday’s 11pm transfer deadline.
Romero reports that Depay is keen to leave Barcelona as he knows he is not an important part of Xavi’s plans for the season and that could affect his chances of providing the Netherlands squad for their World Cup campaign in Qatar later this year .
The 28-year-old has yet to feature in La Liga this season and has been on the bench in all three of Barca’s games so far.
Depay is said to have asked to leave Barcelona and talks have started with Chelsea over a potential deal but no agreement has been reached.
AS report that while Depay is not the focus of Xavi’s plans at Barcelona, the club are not wanting to be left out after allowing Aubameyang and Martin Braithwaite to leave the club on Thursday.
Depay was close to leaving Barca 10 days ago but his move to Juventus fell through after he was unable to agree personal terms with the Serie A club.
The former Manchester United winger was ready to end his contract with Barcelona, which has one year left, while Juventus didn’t have to pay a transfer fee as they were willing to forego any bonus payments Barca owed them as part of Miralem Pjanic’s act.
However, Juventus were put off by Depay’s wage demands and an option to loan Poland forward Arkadiusz Milik from Marseille.
