It’s a turbulent end to Barcelona’s summer transfer window. To bolster the left side of their defence, FC Barcelona fought for a long time during this transfer window to bring competition to regular defending champion Jordi Alba, but was overtaken by Alejandro Balde at the start of the season (twice in 11 departures since the start of the season in La Liga). Because yes, sure Marcos Alonso is now a new player at Barcelona, but his arrival has been under discussion for several weeks already. First he had to sign with fellow Blues Cesar Azpilicueta, the latter extended his contract for an additional season, he was expected to strengthen the right defense line. Marcos Alonso arrived in London from Fiorentina for €23 million in the summer of 2016, and quickly established himself on the left side of the Blues’ backguard, despite changes in training in six seasons (Conte, Sarri, Lampard and Tuchel). In the blue shirt, he would have played 212 matches in 29 achievements and 23 assists. During his adventure with the residents of Stamford Bridge, he notably won two domestic cups (the FA Cup and the League Cup), the 2021 Champions League, followed by the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup between 2021 and 2022.
