Inter CEO Delighted For Milan Skriniar’s Stay

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta insists he is happy to keep star defender Milan Skriniar despite Paris Saint-Germain’s best efforts to keep him out of Serie A. The Slovak international was PSG’s number one defensive target of the summer, but the defending champion has one. Failed to get the deal over the line.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello sportMarotta confirmed his enthusiasm to retain Skriniar’s services.

The balance is certainly positive, but the most important work has been done by retaining the key players,Marotta said. “We were insisting on Skriniar. It was not for sale despite the offers.

PSG and Skriniar reportedly had a “verbal agreement” regarding the player’s personal terms. However, Inter refused to budge on their staggering €75m valuation of their prized asset. The French side made three separate attempts to persuade Nerazzurri. However, their final offer of €65m fell on deaf ears to the Italians, leaving Paris coach Christophe Galtier furious.

Galtier was desperate to land Skriniar. Although PSG cannot be accused of not trying, Inter had other plans. The 27-year-old has been a mainstay defensive back at Giuseppe Meazza since joining the club from Sampdoria in 2017. So, Simone Inzaghi’s decision to fend off PSG’s interest comes as no surprise.

Skriniar’s move to Parc des Princes collapsed in late summer, but he remains an important first-team player at Inter. He has been part of all five Serie A matches this season, including his side’s 3-2 defeat to AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday.

But like his other teammates in defence, he hasn’t enjoyed a promising start to the season. In addition to newcomers Cremonese and Monza, only Spezia (9) have conceded more goals in Serie A this season than Inter (8).
