Chelsea have made a formal request to speak to Graham Potter and Brighton have given them permission to hold talks with their manager.

Thomas Tuchel was sacked as Chelsea manager on Wednesday morning after a disappointing start to the season and a shock defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in Tuesday night’s Champions League.

The Blues moved very quickly to replace the German, with Potter emerging as an early favorite to take over as manager at Stamford Bridge.

Sky Sports report that Chelsea approached Brighton just hours after Tuchel was sacked to ask if they could speak to Potter and the Seagulls have given them permission.

It suggests Chelsea have agreed to honor the release clause in Potter’s deal with Brighton, which is reportedly set at £16million.

Potter will now travel to London for talks with the Chelsea hierarchy, including Chairman Todd Boehly and other executives.
