Paul Merson has advised Manchester United to miss out on a place in the Premier League’s top four despite improving form.
The Red Devils started the season on a somber note, losing their first two games to Brighton and Brentford.
But Erik ten Hag’s side responded with a run of four straight Premier League wins, including victories over Liverpool and Arsenal.
Ten Hag strengthened his squad with a number of summer signings including Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro.
However, Merson believes United will not manage to reach the Champions League qualifying spots as they are “busy” in terms of their squad.
The Arsenal legend has instead backed Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal to form the top 4, in no particular order.
“It’s early doors but I think the Premier League’s top four this season will be Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in any order,” Merson told Sportskeeda.
“Chelsea will obviously have a thing or two to say, but we’ll have to see how Potter does at Stamford Bridge.
“As for Manchester United, I don’t think they will make it because they still have a lot to do in terms of their squad.
“They have won four straight league games including wins over Liverpool and Arsenal but I have yet to be convinced by them.
“Arsenal are good and I believe they are in for the long haul while I still support Liverpool to turn it around and secure a place in the UEFA Champions League in the coming weeks.”
