New Chelsea manager Graham Potter is reportedly set to strengthen his squad with new signings in the January transfer window.
Potter has been drafted in to replace Thomas Tuchel, who was relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge earlier this week.
Tuchel joined the club in early 2021 and delivered a Champions League triumph, as well as UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup trophies.
But former Brighton boss Potter has been tasked with managing the Blues as they seek to improve on their current position of sixth in the league.
According to the Evening Standard, the club will look to grant Potter a new midfielder when the January transfer window opens.
The Blues have few options in the middle of the park as N’Golo Kante continues to struggle with injuries.
Both Kante and Jorginho are out of contract next summer while the deadline for signing Denis Zakaria’s loan deal is at the end of the season.
Chelsea had turned down a £43million offer for Edson Alvarez from Ajax in the final week of the transfer window, but the midfielder could be a target for January.
The report says Chelsea could also try to sign a backup goalkeeper in the winter window.
Potter started the season well with Brighton, taking them fourth in the Premier League table.
In Europe, Potter will look for his new team to claim their first Champions League win this season after Tuchel’s side lost 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb in the middle of the week.
