Manchester United agree £85m deal to sign Antony from Ajax | Transfer Centre News

Manchester United have agreed a £85m deal with Ajax for winger Anthony.

United will pay £80.75m and another £4.25m in extras for the 22-year-old, who is expected to be in Manchester within the next 48 hours for medical treatment.

Anthony was again left out of Ajax’s squad for Sunday’s match in Utrecht as talks between the two teams continued.

Personal jargon is not thought to be an issue with this deal.

United have been hunting Anthony for several weeks and also saw a bid of 67.9 million pounds (80 million euros) rejected by the club earlier this week.

United considered other options, too. They have an interest in Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and continue to monitor his situation. Chelsea are in talks about signing with Aubameyang.

United’s interest remains in Cody Gakbo of PSV Eindhoven. The signature of both Anthony and Jacpo’s signature has been described as “impossible but not impossible”.

In an interview with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Friday on YouTube, Anthony said: “Since February of this year, my agents have come to Amsterdam to inform Ajax of my desire to leave the club for a new challenge and that some interested clubs will do so. He arrives with definitely a great offer.”

“During the window months, the meetings concluded including a proposal by Ajax to renew the contract. I made it clear once again that I wanted to leave the club.

“Today in a meeting with the board of directors I expressed my desire to leave the club, this time with a big offer on the table. Others have already arrived [but] Ajax always rejects the argument that he only has five days to take his place (me).

“I don’t ask [for Ajax] To release me, I am asking Ajax to sell me as the highest offer received by a player playing in the Eredivisie.”

The move to United will see Anthony reunite with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who has already appointed defender Lisandro Martinez from his former club.

“I was very happy in Amsterdam, I won titles in Ajax, made friends and built a part of my career, but now I can confirm that I am ready and full of motivation to follow my story and dreams,” Anthony added.

“People need to listen to me and understand that my motivation drives me towards happiness. I need this to continue to perform at a high level. Ajax will always be in my heart.”

The transfer window closes at 11pm on Thursday, which means United have four days after Sunday to complete any further deals.

Why Anthony is a hog tin man

“For sure, we hope he will be the next star for Ajax.” It was July 2020 and Erik Ten Hag, Ajax manager at the time, was presenting Anthony, the club’s new £20m contract from Sao Paulo.

Ten Hag added: “We at Ajax always try to strive for the top.” “So I expect he will do everything in his power to reach this level of expectations. We will see the rest in the future.”

Ten Hag was right to expect big things from Anthony – the Brazilian, just 19 when he agreed to his move to Amsterdam, quickly established himself as one of Ajax’s key players – but even he wouldn’t have expected that he might one day take him to Manchester United. very.
