Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has praised young Gunners star Folarin Balogun, who is impressing on loan at French club Reims.

The 21-year-old forward, who graduated from Arsenal’s youth academy, joined Ligue 1 club Reims for a season in August.

And Balogun is doing very well in France, the England Under-21 international recording five goals and two assists in just six games.

Balogun has made ten appearances for Arsenal in all competitions since his 2020-21 debut and will be hoping to use his loan spell to impress Mikel Arteta and break into the first-team.

His performances have already caught the attention of Henry, who told Amazon Prime Video Sport France: “I’m really happy for him because English players generally don’t go abroad.

“Typically players are either loaned out to another Premier League team or to the Championship.

“He’s a very English player who likes to run down the channels but he was missing something, which was his degree.

“He’s starting to score regularly now and I’m happy about that – happy he went abroad.

“Especially considering he’s a Londoner, Londoners in general struggle with leaving London.

“When I heard he was coming to France I thought he had a refreshing attitude.”

Balogun faces a tough job to break into the Arsenal XI on his return, with the team enjoying an impressive start to the 2022-23 season.

Arteta’s side are top of the Premier League after their first six games, having beaten Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Bournemouth, Fulham and Aston Villa.

The Gunners suffered their first defeat of the season with a 3-1 defeat at Manchester United last week but returned to winning ways on Thursday with a win over FC Zurich in the opening group game of the Europa League.
