Olivier Giroud has discussed Chelsea’s decision to sack manager Thomas Tuchel and Arsenal’s impressive start to the Premier League season.

The French forward played at both Stamford Bridge and the Emirates before joining AC Milan from Serie A in the summer of 2021.

Giroud spent six seasons at Arsenal after being signed from Arsene Wenger in 2012, scoring more than 100 goals for the Gunners and helping them win three FA Cup trophies.

The 35-year-old had a more limited role at Chelsea but still contributed to the Blues’ Champions League win in 2021 and Europa League triumph in 2019.

Giroud attended Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix and was asked about Tuchel’s departure as Chelsea boss and Arsenal’s good start to the season.

Chelsea last week opted to sack former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain manager Tuchel after an underwhelming run.

The west Londoners have dropped points in half their league games so far this season and were beaten 1-0 by Dinamo Zagreb in last week’s Champions League opener.

Chelsea’s poor run has seen them fall five points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, who won their first five games of the season before losing at Manchester United earlier this month.

When asked about Chelsea’s decision to part ways with Tuchel, Giroud told Sky Sports News: “It’s part of football. It is sad. I think Thomas has done a great job for Chelsea.

Turning his attention to Arsenal, Giroud added: “I’ve been watching my Gooners too. I think it’s going to be another interesting year for them.”

Asked if he thinks Mikel Arteta can guide Arsenal to a top-four finish after last season’s Champions League setback, Giroud added: “Yes, definitely. Hopefully.’
