Romelu Lukaku underwent further tests on his thigh upon his return to Appiano Gentile’s training center after a few days in Belgium. The results were encouraging, but he will remain on the mend for Sunday’s match against Udinese. The player and the staff had hoped he could get the bench, but the risk would be too great, Sports reports.
The attacking star will take advantage of the upcoming international break to complete his rehabilitation. He will return to the Roma squad in early October. At that point, he would have missed six matches due to the thigh strain he sustained in practice after the loss to Lazio.
Coach Simone Inzaghi confirmed the schedule after overtaking Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League (via Toto Sport).
“Edin Dzeko played well today, like all his teammates. I need every player in the back, in the middle and in the attack. Lukaku will come back after stopping, and I will decide the attacking duo game separately.”
The coach also praised Francesco Acerbi, who made it Nerazzurri debut Tuesday.
“He was very good, and it was not easy. I know him and he can be very useful. It is important that there is a healthy competition between our players. In the early matches, I proved to them that everyone is going and that the eleven will take turns. Given the pace of the tilt, I need to Use all our pieces. The Udinese match will be the fourth in ten days. I will have to find out their best lineup in a short amount of time.”
