Pep Guardiola personally congratulated Manchester City legend David Silva on his renewed win against Manchester United last week.

Silva started in Real Sociedad’s 1-0 win at United in the Europa League last Thursday.

It was the attacking midfielder’s 21st game against the Red Devils, whom he has now beaten ten times, nine of them at the Citizens.

After Sociedad’s win, the La Liga side visited City’s training ground, which allowed Silva to revisit the club he’d called home for a decade and reunite with former team-mates and his former manager Guardiola.

And the two Spaniards couldn’t help but laugh at United’s expense in an exchange captured by

“I wasn’t sure if you were going to come over,” Guardiola said as he hugged Silva.

“Win again at Old Trafford? Win again at Old Trafford?!’

A jubilant Silva replied, “Yeah, another one!”

Along with the likes of Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany, Silva is considered one of City’s all-time greatest players, having helped usher in the club’s recent period of success.

The 36-year-old made 436 appearances for the club, scoring 77 goals and providing 140 assists, winning four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups and was named City captain in his last season.

Speaking of the legacy he left at Etihad and the team’s progress since leaving in 2020, Silva said: “It’s generations, isn’t it?

“We were the first team that had the task of changing the situation the club was in. And now they’re really fine.

“We all know the incredible work Pep is doing. The players are also very good. They have adapted very well.

“They always win the league and also fight in Europe. That’s the last thing left to do. Everything I was told upon my arrival is ongoing.

“You started very well. [Erling] Haaland scores a lot of goals, which is of course good for the team. He scores in games where it’s hard to find a way.

“He’s a born goalscorer, we’ve seen that at his previous clubs and here I’m sure he’ll do even better.”
