Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has attacked rival Jurgen Klopp over Liverpool’s title prospects this season.
Liverpool beat City 1-0 in a heated affair at Anfield last Sunday and it seems tensions between the two clubs and their managers are still relatively high.
At the start of the game, the Reds were 13 points behind the Citizens after a terrible start to the season, with Klopp claiming his team were already out of the race for the Premier League title.
This view was not shared by Guardiola, who went so far as to claim that Liverpool were still his side’s biggest challengers in the title race, snubbing Chelsea, Tottenham and leaders Arsenal in the process.
Fast forward to Friday and the City boss has now doubled down on those statements, going so far as to say he has more faith in his rivals than Klopp.
“It looks like with my statement I believe more in the Liverpool team than their manager,” said the Spaniard in his pre-match press conference ahead of City’s clash with Brighton on Saturday.
“It’s only been 10 games, the World Cup in the middle and a lot of games to play, Europe involved and cup competitions involved, injuries involved.
“I said earlier if we have six or seven games left, yes. If it’s just 10 games, a thousand million things can happen.”
Liverpool, who are now just seven points behind City and 11 behind Arsenal, travel to Nottingham Forest for their next game.
Guardiola also responded to Klopp’s somewhat controversial comments that clubs as rich as City “could do whatever they want” to the detriment of other teams.
“It’s not a surprise because it’s not the first time he’s said that in the last five or six years,” he added.
